In a significant regulatory development, the European Union (EU) published Regulation (EU) 2023\/1464 on July 17, 2023, to amend Annex XVII to the REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907\/2006. This move further tightens control over the use of Formaldehyde and substances that release Formaldehyde.<\/p>\n

Formaldehyde is a colorless and highly toxic gas that is used in a range of applications. 98% of the Formaldehyde manufactured or imported in the Union used in the production of formaldehyde-based resins. These resins are central to the creation of various wood-based products such as furniture and flooring, wallpapers, foams, and more.<\/p>\n
Despite its widespread use. The gas is highly reactive in nature at ambient temperatures and can pose serious health risks, such as irritation to the skin, throat, lungs, and eyes.<\/p>\n
The newly implemented changes will place additional restrictions on Formaldehyde and Formaldehyde Releasers, with the measures to be phased in starting from August 6, 2026.<\/p>\n
