EU Notified the WTO of Two RoHS Directive Exemptions

On 4 September 2019, the European commission submitted two notifications of 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2.0), notification G/TBT/N/EU/678 and notification G/TBT/N/EU/679, proposing to amend the exemptions of annex IV and annex III of the RoHS 2.0 directive to the world trade organization (WTO).

One of these is a new exemption for cadmium and lead in rigid plastic profiles made from recycled PVC waste in electrical and electronic doors and Windows, to be added to appendix III of the directive as section 45. The other is a revision of the existing section 41 exemption in appendix IV for lead as a thermal stabilizer in PVC substrates for current, potential and conductance sensors in in vitro diagnostic medical devices for blood, body fluids and in vivo gas analysis. The above two clauses are expected to take effect in November of 2019, and the relevant parties can submit their comments within 60 days after the notification.

As follows:

The reported case G/TBT/N/EU/678

This notification is intended to amend the exemption of article 41 in annex IV of RoHS 2.0 directive. Since the exemption of article 41 has expired on December 31, 2018, this notification is intended to extend the validity of the exemption, with the specific exemption content unchanged:

Number of terms Exemption Scope and duration of application
